Hello

I am Jemma, an experienced successful freelance fundraiser, working from my home in Bath. I work primarily 2-4 hours a week for local Bath charities, and focus on writing grant applications to Trusts and Foundations.

I am focused, committed and diligent, and love what I do!

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.

About me

Flamingo Fundraising is the trading name for Jemma Business Associates Ltd, which I set up in 2016 to offer freelance fundraising to small local charities.

Since 2013, I have lived in Bath and used my strong corporate skillset to benefit the community. I am a long-serving Trustee and Treasurer of Mentoring Plus (a youth charity in Bath), and a Trustee of Children of Choba (an educational charity in Tanzania). I am an active member of the Bath Women’s Fund (a philanthropic giving circle), and a member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.

In a previous life, I was an oil and gas executive with 18 years’ experience in BP, specialising in the international negotiations process, stakeholder management, project management, business planning and procurement. I have led and worked in multi-disciplinary cross-cultural teams to develop complex commercial agreements and implement project plans, working with multiple stakeholders and developing strong business and interpersonal skills.

My Services

I work with small local charities who need fundraising support, but don’t have the need, or funds, for a full- or part-time fundraiser. I work 2-4 hours per week for a client, and it is remarkable what can be achieved in that time.

  • I focus on writing grant applications to Trusts and Foundations, and can write applications for smaller-scale capital projects, service delivery costs, project costs and core costs.
  • If needed, I can help you develop the case for support. This forms the basis for any written application, and includes basic information about your charity, the "need" for your work, planned outputs and outcomes, budget, and supporting case studies.
  • I can also identify and research new funding opportunities.
  • I work from home, but can liaise closely with the Head of Fundraising, Director, or relevant Trustee, as required.
  • As a guide, if you are looking to raise up to £50,000 or so I can help. If your fundraising need is greater or broader than what I can offer, I can connect you with other fundraisers working locally.
  • I can also work for bigger clients as part of a fundraising team, if a little extra help with grant applications is needed.

My Clients

  • Since November 2022, I have been working for Grow For Life, a horticultural therapy charity in Bath. I developed the case for support, I research into potential funders, and I write grant applications to Trusts and Foundations. I have secured ~£100,000 for them, exceeding my annual targets, and enabling the charity to grow significantly;
  • In 2020, I researched potential funders for Tutela orphan support charity in Mozambique;
  • In 2019, I secured >£28k to enable essential roof repairs for St Matthews Church, Widcombe;
  • In 2018/19, I researched potential funders and secured >£20k for the Bath Abbey Footprint Project;
  • On an ongoing voluntary basis, I research potential funders for Mentoring Plus and Children of Choba;
  • In 2014, as a volunteer, I secured ~£50,000 from the then Heritage Lottery Fund to enable the community-led Smallcombe Garden Cemetery project to go ahead. From 2014-2018, I then managed project delivery during the project, worked closely with other volunteers and key stakeholders including the National Trust, managed all contracts and invoicing, and completed all required HLF reporting to secure tranches of funding.
